So, you're on the hunt for the perfect food for your senior dog.  Truth be told, it's easier than you think.  There are 2 basic things you need to keep in mind when shopping:

1)  Choose a food high in fiber.

2)  Choose a food low in calories.

While there may be some exceptions to the above referenced rules, you'll find that they almost always apply. 

 

As we all know, senior dogs are less active.  Keeping them on the same diet may result in obesity which brings on a whole new set of problems.  So, choosing a low-calorie food formulated specifically for senior dogs is very important.

Secondly, you'll want to select a food that is high in fiber.  Most senior dog foods will have more fiber than standard dog foods.  Why is that?  Senior dogs need a food that will focus on their gastrointestinal health.  It's not uncommon for older dogs to suffer from constipation and we want to ensure our older babies are comfortable at all times.  After all, they have given us many years of joy.  It's time to return the favor.
