CapAction Or Capstar? I've Tried Both. Let's See What I Found Out! (Scroll down for video version)
Thanks so much for popping in! It's obvious that you love your dog or cat to pieces. If not, you wouldn't be here! So, I'll do my best to refrain from going on and on about my little lovebugs and provide you with the information you came here for...
Let's begin with the Capstar, shall we? So... You may be a little confused by the packaging. You see, Capstar has come out with a new design (same product). So, when you search for it on Amazon, you may see something like this...
If you DO see that packaging, don't worry... It's still the same Capstar it always was. I have used Capstar for MANY years! It has always been my "go-to" for flea control between Sentinel dosing. Fleas and ticks are HORRIBLE in Florida! It wasn't until recently I learned they sell Capstar on Amazon. I used to drive 30 minutes to my local Petco to buy it AND it was NOT cheap! Needless to say, my life became SO much easier when I found it on Amazon :) So, lets' get into how and if Capstar works...
Capstar Claim Number 1: One oral tablet starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. So, does it REALLY start killing fleas within 30 minutes?
While it may START working in 30 minutes, I would have to say that there is no NOTICEABLE difference in 30 minutes. So, I can't truthfully give that claim a "thumbs-up". In all my years of using Capstar, I have not noticed a significant difference in the amount of fleas until approximately 24 hours post-dosing.
Capstar Claim #2: Give Capstar and watch dead fleas fall off your pet.
Okay... So I don't follow my dogs around with a microscope and watch the fleas fall off of them. So, maybe my answer to that one should be: "If You Watch Very Closely, You Might See A Falling Flea".
Capstar Claim #3: The convenience of an oral tablet available without a prescription from your vet.
Florida Summers are brutal! Yes, the prescribed flea medication is still a must but it doesn't always last a full 30 days. Being able to pop onto Amazon and have the Capstar here in 2 days is just awesome!
Capstar Claim #4: If your pet gets re-infested with fleas, you can safely give another dose as often as once per day.
I have never had to dose twice but I do know a lot of people who have. Personally, we've had excellent results with a single dose. With that said, it's comforting to know if the fleas are completely out of control, Capstar IS safe enough to use once per day.

Moving On To CapAction...
Since I'm all about the deals, I thought I would save approximately $5.00 and try CapAction. Of course, I had the Capstar on stand-by as I don't typically buy generic when it comes to my babies. So, let's rate CapAction claims...
CapAction Claim #1: CapAction begins working within 30 minutes to kill fleas on your pet.
I totally prefer the way they word their claim: "Begins Working". Due to the fact that I can not verify the fact that fleas are dropping to their death within 30 minutes of administration, I prefer the honesty in claiming that it will "begin working" within 30 minutes. Much better CapAction!
CapAction Claim #2: CapAction achieved greater than 90% effectiveness against adult fleas on dogs within 4 hours and cats within 6 hours.
While I didn't perform an age-check on every little dead flea, I can say that I did not see results within 4 hours. With that said, I didn't see results within 4 hours with the Capstar either. Both products took approximately 24 hours for noticeable results.
CapAction Claim #3: Remove the hassle of messy treatments with this easy to give flea control medication for both dogs and cats.
While it's been a while since I've used topical flea prevention, I do NOT miss those days! I don't know about anyone else but my dogs actually move!

Soooooo... What's The Verdict?
CapAction wins in my book! So, why did I choose CapAction over Capstar? Three reasons:
-
The effectiveness of CapAction is exactly the same as Capstar.
-
CapAction claims were straightforward and to the point. Consumer clarity is important in my book!
